Last year, passenger numbers were the highest on record, breaking the 250 million mark for the first time in the U.K. With the aviation industry growing rapidly, there are new airport stories to be told all the time. At the Airport Matters 2016 – AOA Annual Conference in London, one of the projects highlighted is a film presenting the Integrated Tower Solution Project where Birmingham Airport and ADB SAFEGATE work together to enhance Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM).

For the fourth year running, the Airport Operators Association (AOA) and ITN Productions have produced Airport Matters 2016. A news and current affairs-style programme devoted to exploring the issues that are affecting the airport and aviation industry, including safety, environmental issues, the future of the UK’s airports, and the importance of passenger experience.

Presented by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, ‘Airport Matters 2016’ looks at the tools and solutions that are supporting the aviation sector and airports across the UK. These range from what airports can learn from customer search data, new solutions in air traffic control and innovations in baggage handling. AOA say that, “the programme features key industry interviews and news-style reports along with sponsored editorial profiles.”

One of the airport projects presented at the AOA Annual Conference in London is Birmingham Airport. With 11 million passengers annually, Birmingham Airport is home to several airline operators, and is the United Kingdom’s seventh busiest airport. The airport has chosen ADB SAFEGATE, to install its Integrated Tower Solution to enable A-CDM and improve real-time information shared between airport stakeholders ─ airlines, ground handlers and air traffic control. The expected outcomes? Greater predictability of aircraft movement, resource optimization and capacity enhancement, leading to safer and superior airport performance, increased efficiency and lower costs.
