To accommodate its growing business, ADNOC has decided to invest in a new airport that will replace the island’s existing airport. The new airport and a residential area are part of a larger Das Island Development Plan to extend the existing island approximately 17 hectare by reclaiming and compacting 16 million m3 of sand. ADB SAFEGATE was engaged  to supply and install airfield ground lighting and air traffic services equipment for the new state-of-the-art Das Island Airport.

Das Island adds fully-integrated AGL

Das Island is situated 110 km off the coast of Abu Dhabi and is an important hub for the export of oil and gas. The owner of Das Island’s oil refining operations, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), is undergoing major expansion to keep pace with increasing regional and international demand.

To accommodate its growing business, ADNOC has decided to invest in a new airport that will replace the island’s existing airport. The new airport and a residential area are part of a larger Das Island Development Plan to extend the existing island approximately 17 hectare by reclaiming and compacting 16 million m3 of sand.

ADB SAFEGATE was engaged by contractor Al Naboodah to supply and install airfield ground lighting and air traffic services equipment for the new state-of-the-art Das Island Airport. ADB SAFEGATE will team up with several subcontractors for navaids, weather, transponder and communication systems. Seamless integration of the whole system is crucial for efficient operation and maintenance, and it will require delicate attention at every stage.

ADB SAFEGATE´s extensive experience and capabilities in integration will ensure delivery of a fully-integrated system. Project handover is scheduled for November 2013
