ADB SAFEGATE enables safer and more efficient apron operations at Hamburg Airport

PRESS RELEASE. Hamburg Airport is optimizing its apron infrastructure to improve operational efficiency. The airport, has once again, selected ADB SAFEGATE to supply and install its Safedock T1 Advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems (A-VDGS) and extend the SafeControl Apron Management (SAM) system. This setup will help the airport to improve predictability, minimize turnaround time, and reduce delays.

ADB SAFEGATE will deliver, install and commission more than 30 Safedock T1 A-VDGS within the next four years, adding to Hamburg Airport’s existing Safedock A-VDGS setup. The docking systems will be installed at gates across the airport, including the newly refurbished main apron.

ADB SAFEGATE will also extend the airport’s existing SAM system as part of this project. The SAM system is already integrated with the airport’s IT system HAM SuITe and allows the airport to bring collaborative decision making to the apron by sharing critical updates to stakeholders for more efficient turnarounds.

SAM functionality will also be expanded to receive and send signals to the airport’s OneControl Integrated Controller Working Position, enabling the SAM system to control lead-in lights. Apart from continuing to support conventional guidance, the integrated solution will contribute to implementing Follow the Greens guidance at the airport.

As a key hub for Eurowings and a focus city for several other carriers, Hamburg Airport has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve in terms of operational efficiencies, and how this can enable a better experience for its airlines and passengers. Ever since we first collaborated to deliver A-VDGS systems in 2016, followed by our OneControl system in 2017, our focus has been on helping the airport to realize these efficiencies.
