A leading airport in the Middle East has partnered with ADB SAFEGATE for gate maintenance services, to improve airport performance. The airport serves as a hub in the region and supports more than 37 million passengers annually. Downtime and system failure are issues that the airport can ill afford, and as the Original Equipment Manufacturer and supplier of the airport’s gate solutions, ADB SAFEGATE is best equipped to guarantee availability on these critical systems.

Entrusted with the complete maintenance of the airport’s Advanced Visual Docking and Guidance systems (A-VDGS) and the Gate Operating System (GOS), ADB SAFEGATE is helping the Airport achieve optimum availability during LVP and peak summer temperatures.

When the airport commenced operations four years ago, a facility management company was entrusted with the responsibility of providing maintenance services. As the supplier of airfield lighting and related systems, ADB SAFEGATE was subcontracted to maintain the AGL and ILCMS. However, this contract did not include gate maintenance services for other solutions provided by ADB SAFEGATE such as the A-VDGS and SAM.

A few years into full-fledged operations, the airport realised there was a gap in the support of its gate systems and this could result in downtime and impact gate availability. Realizing the critical nature of gate operations, and its close-knit relationship with passenger experience and airport performance, the airport signed a 10-year maintenance contract with the gate systems OEM supplier – ADB SAFEGATE.

Since 2016/7, an ADB SAFEGATE team has been maintaining the A-VDGS and SAM – installed at the airport. Having a competent and committed maintenance team has made all the difference! Just a year since the team came on board, the airport is assured of 99%+ gate availability, a significant improvement from before.

With this contract, ADB SAFEGATE is responsible for guaranteeing availability of all the airfield lighting, ILCMS and gate systems including hardware and software, and supply of spare parts.

“The airport wanted to achieve better control and predictability over the gate operations and realised it was best achieved by working directly with the OEM supplier,” said Christian Onselaere, CEO, ADB SAFEGATE. “As the OEM, we know the ins-and-outs of these systems and now with maintenance responsibilities clearly defined, the airport is in control, and there is no longer any gap in gate performance”.
