Huba, Ignaz and Barbara – please share your thoughts on being part of the ADB SAFEGATE Tower Team.

Name: Huba CsicsicsHuba Blitz
What is your internship about? Can you describe your projects and tasks?
– My first big assignment was to upgrade an estimate sheet in Excel. The most challenging pieces were the Gantt chart and the data entering zones. They were more complex because, when you enter data on one sheet, then it should automatically calculate something on the other sheets. When I finished, I had fully automated the estimate sheet. Now every department will take less time to estimate their worktime needed for a particular project.
– My second big project, which I’m still working on, is about a Fault Tree Calculation sheet (FTC). With this sheet the availability will be calculated for a specific project. I’m using macro and some database connections. In the Excel file you can also calculate special types of projects, where the old program struggled a lot.

What do you like most about being an intern at ADB SAFEGATE Austria?
– I really like the friendly environment. I talk a lot to the other employees and interns about hobbies and school, which is really fun. I also like the working hours. I can decide when I start and at which time I go. I’m a guy who plans a lot and has a strict and busy timetable.

If you could invent something and code the best software tool ever, what would it be?
– It would be an analytical program, because in my spare time I do a lot of analytics with numbers and strategies. So, if I could write the best tool ever, than I really would pick analytics. It’s as well my favorite topic. That’s why I will do my bachelor’s and master’s at FH Joanneum. They have a master branch of study called “Data and Information Science”, which sounds very interesting to me.

What are the three best things you’ve learned during your internship at ADB SAFEGATE?
– I learned to use Access again, because we didn’t work a lot with Access in the HTL (Höhere Technische Schule in Austria). I evolved my skills in Excel as well, even though I work a lot with Excel in my free time. The third best thing I learned is about FTC. For example, how you calculate it and what it means.

What is your internship about? Can you describe your projects and tasks a bit?
– I am working on the SafeControl Apron Management (SAM) configuration tool and may add some new features to the existing SAM. In my first Scrum sprint I was allowed to add a new table where the user could add airlines and next to it some values that describe the airline in more detail. It was important to only allow values that are valid. This means that if the user unintentionally makes invalid entries, he should be informed and the entry should not be taken into account by the system. In addition, there are functions such as deleting entries, undo, and redo of entries, and of course saving all valid changes on disk.

– In my second sprint, I added a function so that the user is prompted to leave a comment every time he/she wants to save something. This way, the changes can now be tracked, and in addition to the actual comment, the system automatically saves information on the user who made the comment, on which computer and at what time.

What do you like most about being an intern at ADB SAFEGATE Austria?
– I’m already allowed to do a lot on my own and I’ve been given really cool stuff to do. I appreciate that everyone is very nice and helps me when I have a question and supports me whenever possible.

If you could invent something and code the best software tool ever, what would it be?
– What I would most like to do is program something that is of use to humanity. By bringing them relief or by supporting them better in some way.

What are the three best things you’ve learned during your internship at ADB SAFEGATE?
– I got to know C++ better, and especially a new framework called Qt Creator. I also got to know testing better. I particularly liked this, as you don’t learn much about this at my university. Besides all this, I also got an insight into Scrum and various tools such as Jira, Bamboo and Bitbucket.

Name: Barbara Jocham
What is your internship about? Can you describe your projects and tasks a bit?
– My internship is about testing the quality of the software regarding OneControl. This includes writing test cases for the releases and executing them.

What do you like most about being an intern at ADB SAFEGATE Austria?
– All the great colleagues and the working environment. You get the chance to work with several different departments and products.

If you could invent something and code the best software tool ever, what would it be?
– I would invent a software which helps to filter relevant information out of big data masses. This would help many people with research in many different ways.

What are the three best things you’ve learned during your internship at ADB SAFEGATE?
– To think outside the box! And how black box testing works in reality. I also gained basic knowledge in aviation, which I did not expect at all!
