Completed first phase of the project

ADB SAFEGATE was proudly awarded Contract 3305 by HKIA in 2019. As the prime contractor, ADB SAFEGATE was entrusted with the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the Airfield Ground Lighting System (AGL), the Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) and the Power Supply System (PSS). The completed first phase consists of the new 3,800-metre-long runway (designated the new North Runway) and associated taxiways.

Team work
Thank you to the extraordinary efforts of our local team in Hong Kong under the leadership of Allam Al-Turk, P.E. supported by our global & regional team who were able to achieve this major milestone on-time despite tremendous difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, global supply-chain interruptions, and severe site access constraints.

Next step
The 3RS project is critical for meeting the long-term air traffic demand at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and strengthening Hong Kong’s status as a leading aviation hub. It is also an integral part of the Airport Authority Hong Kong’s (AAHK) vision and strategy to transform HKIA from a city airport into an Airport City. The second and final phase – which is now underway – consists of the reconfiguration of the existing north runway (redesignated the Centre Runway) and the third runway concourse apron. Anticipated completion of the project is Q3, Y2024.
