In November 2009 Stockholm-Arlanda was the first airport to reach the highest level (3+) of the environmental climate program called “Airport Carbon Accreditation” supported by Airport Council International Europe (ACI) and WSP Environmental. This program is based on ambitious environmental work within all areas at the airport, the cooperation with external partners and additional work with projects related to reduce CO2 emissions in less developed countries.
World leading climate work at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport
In November 2009 Stockholm-Arlanda was the first airport to reach the highest level (3+) of the environmental climate program called “Airport Carbon Accreditation” supported by Airport Council International Europe (ACI) and WSP Environmental. This program is based on ambitious environmental work within all areas at the airport, the cooperation with external partners and additional work with projects related to reduce CO2 emissions in less developed countries.
Reducing energy consumption
When during 2009 Stockholm-Arlanda Airport decided to update their taxi centre lines, the environmental aspect was of high importance. ADB SAFEGATE provided the SafeLED IQ 2 A (running the circuit constantly on 2 Amps allows for energy savings of 50-80%) series circuit solution to be used at the taxi centre line lights. The lights will be fully integrated with the existing ASP-SafeControl single lamp control and monitoring system. Each SafeLED IQ light has a converter integrated with a communication and control/monitoring unit. All components are moulded and protected to keep liquids out and prevent damage to the lights. The primary interest when installing the 2A system is the reduction of energy consumption. Therefore, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport will map the consumption used for the 2A circuits and compare it with the energy used before LED was installed. They will also compare against the part of the taxiway using standard 6.6A system with halogen lamps and traditional LED.
High performance and great support
During 2008, after extensive testing of products from different suppliers, ADB SAFEGATE was chosen to install 45 SafeLED IQ at one stop bar and one lead on/ off circuit. This was because SafeLED IQ met Stockholm- Arlanda Airport’s requirements of high performance, minimal maintenance and great support to their coming environmental work. The stop bar lights have now been running for more than 6000 hours and no maintenance has been needed. The installation of the new SafeLED IQ 2A system at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport was in February 2010. The environmental aspect of reducing CO2 pkt emissions is of great importance for Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. SafeLED IQ will be a valuable contributor to sustainability at the airport and the surrounding areas.
