Anticipating an increase in air traffic, Singapore’s Changi Airport, which currently operates with two runways, plans to add a third runway as part of the Changi East Development Project. The airport will install new airfield specialized systems including airfield lighting, surveillance and detection equipment for the third runway and ADB Safegate has been chosen to supply Changi Airport with the latest LED airfield lighting equipment for this purpose.

Changi Airport is the world’s sixth busiest airport for international traffic, having served a record 55.4 million passengers in 2015. With over 100 airlines providing connectivity to around 320 cities around the globe, Changi Airport handles about 6,800 flights every week. To meet anticipated increase in traffic demand, Changi Airport plans to add a third runway as part of plans to expand its facilities into a new site adjacent to the existing airport called Changi East.

Changi Airport Group (CAG), who is the operator of Changi Airport, has been using ADB Safegate airfield lighting products at the airport for many years. In a recent tender, ADB Safegate, won the Changi East Third Runway Package 1 project to supply the latest LED airfield lighting equipment to CAG.

Changi Airport will be amongst the first few airports in Asia to deploy the latest range of energy saving and environmentally friendly airfield lighting products using ADB SAFEGATE Airfield Lighting (AFL) LED technology. ADB Safegate LED systems including approach and sequence flashing lights, runway Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), runway edge and center line lights, taxiway center line and edge lights, LED guidance signs and Transistor Constant Current Regulators (CCR) will be used to power the third runway.
