Aeroporta di Roma and ADB SAFEGATE

ROME. We´re are excited to share another milestone in our company´s commitment to support the innovation process of our partner airports and their safety and security operations. At ADB SAFEGATE we have successfully completed a project with Aeroporti di Roma that includes virtualization in the Airport Operations Centre (APOC) and a cybersecurity system implementation for both apron management software and airfield lighting control and monitoring system infrastructures at Fiumicino Airport in Rome.

Virtualization supports completion of important step in airport´s digital and innovation strategy

Over the years, ADB SAFEGATE has been involved in several significant projects at Rome-Fiumicino International Airport “Leonardo Da Vinci”. In the last 10 years, the company has deployed 91 Safedock Advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems ( A-VDGS) and related supervision system, SafeControl Apron Management, plus the full ALCMS and ILCMS infrastructures concerning the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) of the airport. Now, we are excited to share that ADB SAFEGATE has successfully completed an innovative new project together with Aeroporti di Roma that includes virtualization in the Airport Operations Centre (APOC) and a cyber security system implementation for both apron management system and Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System infrastructures (ALCMS/ILCMS) at the airport.

The virtualization of the apron management system and ILCMS/ALCMS in the APOC has allowed the airport to complete another important step in their digital and innovation strategy. The cyber security project implementation helped the airport to enhance its IT security and to comply with the new, stringent criteria that are directed and monitored by the Italian Cybersecurity Authority.

Project implemented in very close cooperation with the client

The project took two years to complete and challenges were mainly related to the need to keep the airport operational while developing and implementing a new side of the ALCMS/ILCMS and apron management system architecture through the creation of a development test setup. The team had to ensure that redundancies were always in place during the switch of the systems. These activities were implemented in very close cooperation with the airport and through a constantly open communication channel. The client now has a fully updated cybersecurity infrastructure available and the possibility to manage a wide set of operations from their APOC.
