From June to September 2024, the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) launched an ambitious initiative at the Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) to enhance sustainability, safety, and efficiency in its operations. This significant venture was a collaborative effort steered by ADB SAFEGATE, under the assignment of contractor Western Bainoona Group, with the goal of improving global standards in airport operations.
In a two-part article series, ADB SAFEGATE’s global ATM advisor, Stephen O’Flynn, explains Follow the Greens. In this second article, Stephen discusses why airports need to develop a roadmap for Follow the Greens (FTG).
The aviation industry is changing, and ADB SAFEGATE is changing with it. For the airport industry to take advantage of the opportunities arising, they need access to the latest information about solutions, aviation trends, new technology and more. ADB SAFEGATE recognises this need.
Sharjah International Airport opened a new Dh500 million runway on Wednesday, 22 October. ADB SAFEGATE was key in the implementation of this project, delivering turnkey project management including design, supply, installation, commissioning and training. Safegate Group lighting, control systems and Instrument Landing System (ILS) navigation-aids were installed. The runway is now equipped to receive large aircraft and new generations of aircraft, including the Boeing 747-800, Airbus A380, and freight planes such as the AN124 and AN225. The runway spans 4,060 meters and is 60 meters wide. It runs parallel to the former runway and includes two taxiways and eight connecting corridors.
