VIDEO. Perth Airport is a major transit hub that operates 24/7. The airport handles nearly 14 million passengers and 130,000 aircraft movements every year. It is one of the most isolated international airports in the world. The nearest alternative airports are a minimum of two flying hours away. Airline diversion cost including fuel, transport & accommodation can reach over half a million dollars per diversion. Perth Airport is one of the most isolated airports in the world. Although the airport only has around 10 days with Low Visibility Operations (LVO) per year, the diversions are costly for airlines and inconvenient for passengers. ADB SAFEGATE is working together with Perth Airport, Airservices and West Coast Civil to weather proof the airport through an upgrade of its lighting infrastructure which will allow for Category III landings and make diversions a thing of the past.
Dense fog and low visibilty has challenged the second largest civil airport in Pakistan for years. To solve the problem, Safegate Group and Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport work together in an Airport Traffic Expansion project in order to weather proof the airport. The first phase of the project was completed in November before time shedule. We went Lahore to ask representatives from the airport, the Civil Aviation and the Safegate team about what the project means to the airport, the city and the passengers. Watch the result in this new documentary.
LAHORE, PAKISTAN. Just in time for the upcoming foggy winter season when normally around 1000 flights are affected by diversions and delay, Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport is being weather proofed in a project that will increase capacity by five times during low visibility. The project will be done in only 12 months’ time, and key to the fast execution is a holistic view on the airport’s expansion, and an airport knowledgeable enough to think outside the box.
